Jerry
Freedner
(American, b. 1940)

Jerry Freedner’s photographs explore the beauty and wonder of nature surrounding his home in the Hudson River Valley, while also capturing its fragility. His Edibles series presents local botanicals against stark black backgrounds, emphasizing the detail and untamed nature of his subjects, but also suggesting their vulnerability. Deeply invested his local community conservation efforts, he has been influenced by the Hudson River School artists who also emphasized the natural resources of this region.

Freedner has exhibited at Carrie Haddad Gallery (Hudson, New York), Millbrook Library (NY), ArtsWalk Hudson (NY), Riders Mills Art Show (Malden Bridge, NY), Sand Lake Center for the Arts Gallery (Averill Park, NY), Columbia Land Conservancy (Spencertown, NY), the Photography Center of the Capital District (Troy, NY); Columbia County Council on the Arts (Hudson, NY), RiverWinds Gallery (Beacon, NY), Barrett Art Center (Poughkeepsie, NY), Howland Public Library (Beacon, NY). Freedner studied photography and sculpture at New York's the New School.
