Mark Power’s complex, meticulously crafted images have earned him a reputation as one of the foremost British photographers. He first became known for his work made with a large-format camera that explored remote locations esoterically described in the BBC’s iconic “Shipping Forecast,” a daily broadcast radio show.

Power has gone on to uniquely express the peculiarities of social culture in places as varied as Britain, Poland, and America. Touchet, Washington, USA is part of his latest project, Good Morning America (ongoing from 2012), a series of photographs taken on his travels across the country. These works reflect an outsider’s view of the United States while at the same time responding to very personal memories of American culture and its profound impact on his childhood in the British suburbs. Here, he remains deeply connected to his subject, while still viewing from a distance.

Power’s work has been exhibited worldwide in galleries and museums, and is in important collections, both public and private, including at the Arts Council of England, the British Council, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Milwaukee Art Museum, Pier 24 in San Francisco, and Marrakech Museum of Photography and Visual Art. He is currently a professor of photography at the University of Brighton and graduated from Brighton Polytechnic.
